Title: Application Support Executive – Payments

Location: Morristown, New Jersey

 

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Application Support Executive with strong expertise in L2/L3 production support for payment systems running on Windows OS. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of credit/debit card processing, payment gateways, disputes, chargebacks, and fraud management, and will play a critical role in ensuring high availability, security, and performance of mission-critical payment applications.

 

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, triage, and resolve production incidents in payment applications, ensuring minimal downtime and strict adherence to SLAs.
  • Provide L2/L3 support for payment gateways, POS systems, and card processing platforms.
  • Troubleshoot transaction failures, connectivity issues, and integration problems with card networks (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), acquirers, and issuers.
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement permanent fixes to prevent recurrence.
  • Support end-to-end card payment processing, including:
  • Authorization
  • Clearing
  • Settlement
  • Reconciliation
  • Troubleshoot ISO 8583 message flows, EMV transactions, and settlement mismatches.
  • Analyze transaction logs and message-level data to identify processing issues.
  • Investigate and resolve payment disputes and chargebacks.
  • Support compliance with card network regulations (Visa TCR, Mastercard Dispute Resolution).
  • Coordinate with banks, merchants, and internal teams to ensure timely dispute resolution.
  • Monitor and analyze transaction patterns using fraud detection and analytics tools.
  • Support fraud prevention mechanisms such as tokenization, 3D Secure, and risk scoring systems.
  • Assist fraud teams in responding to suspicious activities and alerts.
  • Perform application maintenance, including configuration changes, patches, and updates.
  • Ensure systems comply with PCI DSS, EMV, PSD2, and GDPR requirements.
  • Support Windows-based environments and related services.
  • Use monitoring tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, or similar to track:
  • Transaction success rates
  • System health and performance
  • Fraud trends
  • Generate operational and incident reports for stakeholders.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of incidents, fixes, configurations, and known issues.
  • Work closely with development, QA, infrastructure, DevOps, and fraud teams to resolve issues and deploy fixes.
  • Communicate effectively with external clients, merchants, and banking partners.
  • Participate in production releases, post-incident reviews, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce chargeback rates, improve fraud detection, and automate support processes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of incident management and support workflows.
  • Ensure ongoing adherence to security, regulatory, and compliance standards.

 

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 6–8+ years of application support experience, with 5+ years in the payment industry.
  • Strong experience in L2/L3 production support environments on Windows OS.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting applications built using Java, .NET, or Python.
  • Strong SQL / Oracle skills for querying transaction, settlement, and dispute data.
  • Hands-on experience with APIs and web services (REST/SOAP).
  • Experience with middleware and messaging platforms such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
  • In-depth knowledge of payment protocols (ISO 8583, SWIFT) and EMV standards.
  • Strong understanding of card processing workflows, including acquirer/issuer interactions and network operations.
  • Expertise in credit/debit card processing, disputes, chargebacks, and fraud management.
  • Familiarity with PCI DSS, PSD2, GDPR, and other payment industry regulations.
  • Experience working with fraud prevention tools and risk management systems.
  • Experience with ITSM tools (ServiceNow, Jira).
  • Proficiency with monitoring and logging tools (Splunk, Dynatrace).
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
  • Scripting skills using Bash or PowerShell for automation.
