Location: Phoenix, AZ 85054 (Day 1 Onsite)

 

Senior Software Architect / Principal Engineer

Responsibilities

Architecture & Innovation

• Drive rapid proof‑of‑concept (POC) development to validate ideas, frameworks, and architectural patterns.
• Partner with VPs and Architects to define, evolve, and maintain Enterprise Architecture, Platform Architecture, Data Architecture, and API strategies.
• Introduce modern architectural paradigms, best practices, and standardized design patterns across the organization.
• Lead both high‑level solution design and detailed technical design efforts, including conducting design and architecture reviews.

Engineering Enablement

• Build foundational components ("rails") that accelerate development for engineering teams.
• Provide hands‑on support to engineers and project managers for rapid development, deployment, and troubleshooting.
• Mentor engineers and solution architects to simplify complex technical concepts and ensure high‑quality, scalable implementations.

Collaboration & Leadership

• Participate actively in cross‑team and enterprise‑level architectural and engineering discussions.
• Work closely with cross-functional leaders to understand business goals, principles, and strategic direction; translate them into scalable technical solutions.
• Communicate architecture strategy, changes, and recommendations to senior leadership with clarity and influence.

Minimum Qualifications

Technical Expertise

• 7+ years of strong hands‑on experience in Java with depth in backend or middleware development.
• Proven experience designing and implementing large-scale, cloud-native, highly resilient, high-availability platforms.
• Strong expertise in building high-performance, high-throughput distributed systems.
• Experience with microservices architecture; familiarity with service mesh is preferred.

Preferred Technology Experience

Hands-on experience with some or all of the following:

• Languages & Frameworks: Java, Go, Vert.x, React
• Networking & Communication: Envoy, gRPC, Protobuf
• Databases & Storage: Postgres, Couchbase, Cassandra, Redis
• DevOps & Tooling: Consul, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, GitHub Actions
• Rules & Observability: Drools, Elastic Stack
• Streaming & Data: Kafka, Spark, ML tooling

Soft Skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication; strong presentation and leadership skills.
• Ability to influence without formal authority and drive consensus in cross-functional environments.
• Strong analytical reasoning, problem solving, and decision-making abilities.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field required.
• Master's degree preferred.
