Location: Phoenix, AZ 85054 (Day 1 Onsite)
Duration: 6+ Months
Senior Software Architect / Principal Engineer
Responsibilities
Architecture & Innovation
- Drive rapid proof‑of‑concept (POC) development to validate ideas, frameworks, and architectural patterns.
- Partner with VPs and Architects to define, evolve, and maintain Enterprise Architecture, Platform Architecture, Data Architecture, and API strategies.
- Introduce modern architectural paradigms, best practices, and standardized design patterns across the organization.
- Lead both high‑level solution design and detailed technical design efforts, including conducting design and architecture reviews.
Engineering Enablement
- Build foundational components ("rails") that accelerate development for engineering teams.
- Provide hands‑on support to engineers and project managers for rapid development, deployment, and troubleshooting.
- Mentor engineers and solution architects to simplify complex technical concepts and ensure high‑quality, scalable implementations.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Participate actively in cross‑team and enterprise‑level architectural and engineering discussions.
- Work closely with cross-functional leaders to understand business goals, principles, and strategic direction; translate them into scalable technical solutions.
- Communicate architecture strategy, changes, and recommendations to senior leadership with clarity and influence.
Minimum Qualifications
Technical Expertise
- 7+ years of strong hands‑on experience in Java with depth in backend or middleware development.
- Proven experience designing and implementing large-scale, cloud-native, highly resilient, high-availability platforms.
- Strong expertise in building high-performance, high-throughput distributed systems.
- Experience with microservices architecture; familiarity with service mesh is preferred.
Preferred Technology Experience
Hands-on experience with some or all of the following:
- Languages & Frameworks: Java, Go, Vert.x, React
- Networking & Communication: Envoy, gRPC, Protobuf
- Databases & Storage: Postgres, Couchbase, Cassandra, Redis
- DevOps & Tooling: Consul, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, GitHub Actions
- Rules & Observability: Drools, Elastic Stack
- Streaming & Data: Kafka, Spark, ML tooling
Soft Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication; strong presentation and leadership skills.
- Ability to influence without formal authority and drive consensus in cross-functional environments.
- Strong analytical reasoning, problem solving, and decision-making abilities.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field required.
- Master's degree preferred.
