Job Description – Tandem Developer
Location: Chicago, IL (Onsite / Remote)
Job Summary
The Tandem Developer / Analyst will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining applications on the Tandem (HP NonStop) platform. This role involves close collaboration with business and technical teams to translate business requirements into stable, high-performance Tandem solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Tandem systems, programming languages, and utilities, along with solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
Development & Maintenance
Design, develop, and maintain applications on the Tandem (HP NonStop) platform.
Write, test, debug, and optimize code using COBOL and TACL.
Develop and support batch processing and online transaction processing (OLTP) systems.
Implement enhancements, fixes, and performance improvements to existing Tandem applications.
Analysis & Design
Analyze business requirements and convert them into detailed technical specifications.
Collaboration & Production Support
Provide technical guidance and support to team members and end users.
Work with infrastructure and support teams to ensure smooth system integration.
Participate in on-call rotations and resolve production issues for critical systems.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
Technical Skills
Strong hands-on experience with Tandem (HP NonStop) systems and tools.
Proficiency in COBOL and TACL programming.
Experience with Tandem databases such as Enscribe and SQL/MP.
Familiarity with Tandem utilities including Pathway, TMF, and Guardian.
Experience with batch processing and OLTP applications.
Knowledge of system performance tuning and optimization.
Soft Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
6–8 years of experience as a Tandem Developer / Analyst.
Domain experience in insurance, claims handling, or related industries is a plus.
Preferred / Desirable Skills
Experience in modernizing legacy Tandem applications.
Familiarity with Agile / Scrum methodologies.
Exposure to DevOps practices and tools.
Certifications in Tandem / HP NonStop technologies.
