Location: Frederick, MD - Onsite

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Telecom & Unified Communications Engineer to manage, support, and optimize enterprise telephony and unified communications environments. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience with Avaya telephony systems, AWS Connect, NICE Uptivity, Cisco voice technologies, voicemail systems, telecom infrastructure, and voice/data network design.

This role will be responsible for administering and supporting mission-critical voice communication systems, troubleshooting complex telephony issues, implementing network enhancements, managing telecom infrastructure, and ensuring high availability of enterprise communication platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Telephony Systems Administration

  • Administer, configure, maintain, and support enterprise telephony environments.
  • Manage Avaya Call Manager, System Manager, and Voicemail systems.
  • Configure and maintain Avaya PBX and Unified Communications platforms.
  • Design and implement call routing strategies, call vectors, and voice workflows.
  • Perform system upgrades, patching, maintenance, and optimization activities.

Unified Communications & Voice Technologies

  • Support enterprise Unified Communications solutions across voice, video, and collaboration platforms.
  • Administer NICE Uptivity Call Recording and Screen Capture solutions.
  • Manage TASKE Reporting environments and call center reporting systems.
  • Support Cisco voice, video, and secure communication technologies.
  • Troubleshoot voice quality, call routing, and connectivity issues.

AWS Connect Administration

  • Configure, administer, and maintain AWS Connect environments.
  • Develop and manage contact flows, call routing, queues, and reporting.
  • Integrate AWS Connect with enterprise communication systems.
  • Monitor platform performance and implement service improvements.
  • Support cloud-based contact center initiatives.

Telecom Network Engineering

  • Design, implement, and maintain voice and data telecommunications networks.
  • Configure voice circuits, telecom interfaces, SIP trunks, and communication equipment.
  • Establish and maintain telecom network connectivity following industry standards.
  • Support voice and data network integrations.
  • Ensure network performance, reliability, and scalability.

Incident Management & Troubleshooting

  • Troubleshoot telephony outages, service disruptions, and infrastructure issues.
  • Analyze alarms, logs, and performance metrics to identify root causes.
  • Coordinate with vendors, carriers, engineers, and support teams for issue resolution.
  • Perform service restoration activities and validate system functionality.
  • Support critical incident response and escalation procedures.

Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity

  • Develop and maintain telecom disaster recovery procedures.
  • Participate in business continuity planning and testing activities.
  • Validate backup and recovery processes for communication systems.
  • Ensure communication services remain operational during emergency situations.
  • Support high-availability and resiliency initiatives.

Service Desk & Operational Support

  • Support voice-related service requests including adds, moves, changes, and deletions.
  • Manage escalations through Service Desk ticketing systems.
  • Process telecom requests and ensure SLA compliance.
  • Maintain operational documentation and knowledge repositories.
  • Support Agile project initiatives and sprint-based activities.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Create and maintain telecom network diagrams, configurations, and operational documentation.
  • Perform system audits and license utilization reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise standards and security requirements.
  • Document procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting processes.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and asset records.

Required Qualifications

  • 8–12+ years of experience in Telecommunications, Unified Communications, Voice Engineering, or Telecom Infrastructure Support.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Avaya Call Manager, System Manager, and Voicemail Systems.
  • Experience administering Avaya PBX and Unified Communications environments.
  • Experience with NICE Uptivity Call Recording and Screen Capture solutions.
  • Experience with TASKE Reporting platforms.
  • Strong experience supporting Cisco Voice and Video Communication systems.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS Connect administration and configuration.
  • Strong understanding of telecommunications technologies and architecture.
  • Experience designing and supporting voice and data communication networks.
  • Knowledge of SIP, PBX, VoIP, telecom circuits, and communication protocols.
  • Experience supporting disaster recovery and business continuity initiatives.
