Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Application Monitoring Engineer to support the Mortgage Data Services (MDS) Application Monitoring Team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring, triaging, troubleshooting, and supporting customer-facing applications, APIs, microservices, document processing workflows, and business-critical services.

This role requires strong expertise in application monitoring, incident management, API health monitoring, log analysis, service dependency tracking, and operational support. The successful candidate will work closely with application support, platform engineering, DevOps, security, and business teams to ensure high availability and rapid resolution of production incidents impacting mortgage business operations.


Key Responsibilities

Application & Service Monitoring

  • Monitor business-critical Mortgage Data Services (MDS) applications, APIs, microservices, portals, and document processing workflows.
  • Track service availability, latency, throughput, error rates, and user experience metrics.
  • Perform REST API health monitoring, endpoint validation, and authentication service monitoring.
  • Monitor web applications and user-facing services to ensure optimal performance and availability.
  • Conduct certificate monitoring and proactively identify potential service disruptions.

Incident Management & Operational Support

  • Perform real-time monitoring and triage of production incidents affecting customers, partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Investigate application failures, API errors, service degradations, and workflow disruptions.
  • Coordinate incident response activities and engage appropriate application, infrastructure, and platform support teams.
  • Validate service restoration following application restarts, deployments, rollbacks, or infrastructure changes.
  • Provide clear communication and status updates during high-priority incidents.

Log Analysis & Troubleshooting

  • Analyze application logs, error messages, monitoring alerts, and performance metrics.
  • Identify recurring error patterns, service degradation trends, and root causes.
  • Support deeper L1.5 troubleshooting activities and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with development and engineering teams to resolve application issues.
  • Assist in post-incident reviews and root cause analysis efforts.

API & Microservices Monitoring

  • Monitor REST APIs for availability, latency, authentication failures, and error conditions.
  • Track microservice dependencies and service-to-service communication health.
  • Analyze upstream and downstream application impacts during incidents.
  • Monitor event-driven architectures and distributed application environments.
  • Validate API security controls and endpoint availability.

Platform & Environment Support

  • Maintain awareness of production and non-production environments.
  • Support monitoring of document ingestion, processing, and workflow automation systems.
  • Understand business process dependencies and application integration points.
  • Monitor deployment activities and validate operational readiness.
  • Ensure environment stability across multiple application platforms.

Security & Compliance Monitoring

  • Monitor for authentication failures, abnormal traffic patterns, and suspicious activities.
  • Support API security monitoring and access control validation.
  • Ensure adherence to security policies, least-privilege principles, and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity and GRC teams on security-related incidents.
  • Maintain compliance with enterprise security standards and data protection requirements.

Process Improvement & Reporting

  • Participate in Agile operational support processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop monitoring dashboards, operational reports, and incident trend analysis.
  • Recommend improvements to monitoring strategies, alerting thresholds, and incident workflows.
  • Support service reliability and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Document operational procedures, runbooks, and troubleshooting guides.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in Application Monitoring, Production Support, Application Support, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Operations Engineering.
  • Strong experience monitoring REST APIs, web applications, and microservices-based platforms.
  • Experience supporting customer-facing applications in high-availability environments.
  • Strong understanding of event-driven architectures and distributed systems.
  • Experience with incident management, escalation procedures, and production support processes.
  • Knowledge of application logging, monitoring, and alert management concepts.
  • Experience troubleshooting application performance and availability issues.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working within Agile environments.
