Location: Chicago, IL (Local Candidates Preferred)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Scrum Master to lead Agile delivery teams and drive successful software development initiatives. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience facilitating Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe ceremonies while supporting cross-functional teams throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).

The Scrum Master will serve as a servant leader, coach Agile teams, remove delivery impediments, promote Agile best practices, and ensure alignment with organizational Agile transformation goals. This role requires strong expertise in Azure DevOps (ADO), Agile metrics, sprint planning, backlog management, team health monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Agile Leadership & Facilitation

• Serve as Scrum Master for one or more Agile software development teams.
• Facilitate Agile ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Sprint Reviews, Sprint Retrospectives, Backlog Refinement, and Release Planning.
• Lead and facilitate SAFe events including Program Increment (PI) Planning and Agile Release Train activities.
• Promote Agile principles, values, and best practices across teams and stakeholders.
• Act as a servant leader to support team productivity, collaboration, and self-organization.

Scrum, Kanban & SAFe Delivery

• Ensure adherence to Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe frameworks.
• Coach team members, Product Owners, and stakeholders on Agile methodologies.
• Drive continuous improvement through retrospectives and process optimization.
• Support teams in maintaining Definition of Done (DoD), acceptance criteria, and quality standards.
• Facilitate backlog refinement and prioritization activities.

Delivery Management & Execution

• Identify, track, manage, and resolve delivery impediments and dependencies.
• Monitor sprint execution and ensure planned work is delivered within committed timelines.
• Collaborate with Product Owners to manage sprint goals, release objectives, and delivery expectations.
• Support software development teams through all phases of the SDLC.
• Coordinate with business and technology stakeholders to ensure alignment of project objectives.

Agile Metrics & Reporting

• Develop, maintain, and analyze Agile delivery metrics and reports.
• Monitor team velocity, sprint burndown, release progress, capacity planning, and throughput metrics.
• Provide project status updates, dashboards, and executive-level reporting to leadership.
• Utilize Azure DevOps (ADO) and JIRA to manage Agile artifacts and reporting.
• Track risks, issues, dependencies, and action items.

Team Health & Continuous Improvement

• Monitor team performance, engagement, and overall health.
• Facilitate conflict resolution and foster a collaborative team environment.
• Identify opportunities to improve delivery processes and Agile maturity.
• Support continuous learning and Agile coaching initiatives.
• Encourage innovation and process excellence across teams.

Stakeholder Communication

• Collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Development Teams, QA Teams, DevOps Teams, and Leadership.
• Communicate project progress, risks, challenges, and achievements to stakeholders.
• Ensure transparency across Agile teams and leadership.
• Support organizational Agile transformation initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience as a Scrum Master supporting software development projects.
• Strong experience with Agile methodologies including Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe.
• Hands-on experience using Azure DevOps (ADO) and/or JIRA.
• Strong understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• Experience facilitating Agile ceremonies and SAFe events.
• Proven experience identifying and removing team impediments.
• Strong knowledge of Agile artifacts including user stories, acceptance criteria, backlog refinement, and Definition of Done.
• Experience tracking Agile metrics and delivery performance.
• Strong communication, coaching, facilitation, and leadership skills.
• Ability to work with technical teams and understand software development concepts.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Scrum Master (CSM)
• SAFe Scrum Master (SSM)
• SAFe Agilist (SA)
• PMI-ACP Certification
• Experience working within DevOps environments.
• Experience supporting enterprise-scale Agile transformations.
