Role: Business Analyst – Lab in the Loop (Foundation)
Location: Foster City, CA
Duration: 12+ Months
Description:
We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst to support the Lab in the Loop – Foundation initiative. This role will work closely with laboratory scientists, research teams, and IT stakeholders to define, document, and validate requirements for lab informatics and data-driven solutions in a biopharma environment.
Key Responsibilities
Requirements Gathering & Analysis
- Partner with laboratory scientists and research stakeholders to understand:
- Current lab workflows
- Pain points
- Future-state capabilities
- Conduct structured requirements elicitation:
- Interviews
- Workshops
- Process walkthroughs
- Translate findings into clear and actionable business requirements
Documentation & Artifacts
- Develop and maintain:
- Business Requirements Documents (BRDs)
- Process flows and use cases
- Functional requirements and acceptance criteria
- Ensure documentation aligns with business and scientific needs
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Act as a liaison between:
- Business users (scientists, researchers)
- IT teams (data engineering, platform, architecture)
- Collaborate with project managers and cross-functional teams
- Participate in governance meetings and working sessions
Solution Validation & Delivery Support
- Validate proposed solutions with end users to ensure alignment with lab workflows
- Support UAT and ensure requirements are met
- Assist in change management and user adoption initiatives
Required Skills & Qualifications
Core Skills
- 8+ years of experience as a Business Analyst
- Experience working on data-driven or technology projects
- Strong experience in:
- Requirements elicitation
- Documentation and analysis
- Ability to translate scientific/business needs into structured requirements
Domain Expertise
- Experience working with:
- Laboratory scientists or research teams
- Lab informatics systems
- Background in:
- Biopharma
- Life Sciences
- Scientific R&D environments
Technical & Functional Skills
- Experience creating:
- BRDs
- Process flows
- Use cases
- Knowledge of Gene Data Capture (preferred)
Soft Skills
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills
- Ability to work across scientific, business, and IT teams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Attention to detail and stakeholder management
