Role Summary:
Mainframe IMS System Programmer responsible for installation, customization, maintenance, and operational support of IBM IMS (DB and TM) environments on the z/OS platform. The role ensures high availability, performance, security, audit compliance, automation enablement, and integration with distributed and modern API-based ecosystems.
Required Technical Skills and Competencies:
Installation, configuration, upgrades, and maintenance of IMS DB and TM subsystems

IMS system incident support, system abends, and recovery operations
RECON, RECON, RECON, or equivalent RECON, or equivalent RECON

Experience integrating IMS with distributed systems (JDBC, MQ, REST APIs, middleware, or equivalent)

Mainframe storage management exposure (VSAM, DFSMS, or equivalent)
Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance diagnostics skills
Agile delivery experience using Jira, GitHub, or service governance tools (ServiceNow, change control, and release documentation)
Primary Responsibilities:
System Installation and Maintenance
Install, configure, and maintain IMS DB and TM subsystems and associated products (IMS Connect, ODBM, BMP, ODBM, BMP, ODBM, BMP, or equivalent Connect, ODBM, BMP, or equivalent Connect, ODBM, BMP, or equivalent Connect, ODBM, BMP)
Apply APARs/PTFs and manage version upgrades and migrations
Manage software installation using SMP/E environments
Ensure compatibility between IMS, z/OS, DB2, CICS, and related subsystems
Performance and Capacity Management
Monitor IMS system performance and tune parameters for throughput and response time improvements
Conduct capacity planning and growth forecasting
Use enterprise monitoring tools (OMEGAMON, Mainview, RMF, or equivalent) for diagnostics and system health analysis
System Support and Troubleshooting
Provide Level 3 support for IMS system incidents and abends
Diagnose and resolve database recovery, logs, buffer, buffer, buffer, or equivalent buffer, or equivalent buffer

Collaborate with IBM support teams for complex issue resolution and patches
Database Administration Support

Support backup and recovery strategies
Maintain and operate core IMS utilities including DBD, PSB, ACBGEN, BMPs, RECON, and RECON, or equivalent RECON, or equivalent RECON
Automation and Integration
Develop automation scripts using REXX, CLIST, or JCL for operational efficiency
Integrate IMS with middleware and monitoring platforms (JDBC, MQ, Connect, or REST API enablement)
Support modernization initiatives including API enablement and distributed connectivity
Disaster Recovery and Compliance
Participate in DR planning, DR testing, and DR documentation
Maintain compliance with audit, change, and release governance standards
Documentation and Collaboration
Maintain detailed system configuration and maintenance documentation
Mentor junior system programmers and cross-train peers
Collaborate with infrastructure, DBA, and application development teams
