AI Engineering Pod Lead

Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced AI Engineering Pod Lead to drive day-to-day technical leadership, architecture decisions, and AI solution delivery. This role will lead developers and AI engineers, translate product objectives into sprint execution plans, and ensure engineering excellence across pods.
The ideal candidate will combine strong cloud-native engineering expertise with hands-on experience in AI agentic systems, conversational AI, and enterprise-grade deployment practices.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Lead day-to-day development activities and technical decision-making within the pod.
- Translate product objectives into implementation roadmaps and sprint goals.
- Directly manage developers and AI engineers.
- Lead technical design discussions and resolve cross-pod blockers.
- Manage code reviews, shared modules, and ensure engineering consistency.
- Drive Agile best practices including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and velocity tracking.
- Support onboarding and mentoring of engineers.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate daily with the Perth-based Engagement Lead during discovery and delivery phases.
- Align technical decisions with AI platform strategy, business goals, and cross-team dependencies.
- Represent the pod in architecture reviews, technical forums, and showcases.
- Clearly communicate risks, trade-offs, and technical constraints to stakeholders.
- Provide timely updates to leadership on technical progress and decisions.
- Engage with business stakeholders as required.
Required Technical Skills
Engineering & Architecture
- Strong experience in cloud-native development.
- Secure handling of secrets, environment variables, and service configurations.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines for AI systems and microservices.
- Familiarity with repository governance, team-based access control, and code ownership.
- Proficiency in modern programming languages.
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices.
- Strong API design, specification management, and service integration experience.
- Solid experience in Agile software development.
AI & Agentic Systems
- Experience designing and deploying conversational AI and multi-agent systems.
- Hands-on experience orchestrating agent workflows and managing contextual state.
- Strong understanding of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures.
- Experience integrating external data sources into AI workflows.
- Ability to evaluate deployment trade-offs (serverless vs. containerized models).
- Experience deploying scalable AI inference systems.
Security & Compliance
- Knowledge of enterprise data privacy and cybersecurity standards.
- Responsible handling of user interaction logs and observability data.
- Clear understanding of data retention and governance policies.
Tooling & Observability
- Experience with observability tools (logging, tracing, monitoring).
- Familiarity with API testing tools and authentication mechanisms.
- Performance monitoring and system optimization expertise.
