Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced BI Migration Lead with deep expertise in IBM Cognos Analytics and Microsoft Power BI, specializing in end-to-end migration of Cognos reports and dashboards to Power BI. The ideal candidate will lead assessment, architecture design, migration strategy, execution, and stakeholder communication while ensuring scalability, performance, and governance of the new BI platform.

Key Responsibilities

Cognos & Power BI Migration Leadership

• Lead end-to-end migration of BI solutions from IBM Cognos (Series 6 / 8 / 10 / 11) to Power BI.

• Convert complex Cognos reports, dashboards, cubes, and bursting logic into optimized Power BI solutions.

• Redesign visualizations and business logic to align with Power BI best practices.

• Define and document the migration strategy, roadmap, dependencies, risks, and mitigation plans.

• Create migration playbooks, technical documentation, and user guides.

IBM Cognos Expertise

• Advanced proficiency in IBM Cognos Analytics 11.x, including:

  • Report Studio

  • Analysis Studio

  • Event Studio

  • Framework Manager

  • Dynamic Cubes

  • Transformer

• Design and support multidimensional reports, dashboards, and report bursting.

• Strong experience with Cognos Content Store and legacy Cognos architectures.

Power BI Architecture & Development

• Design and implement enterprise-scale Power BI architecture, including:

  • Datasets

  • Dataflows

  • Gateways

  • Workspace management

• Develop Power BI dashboards, reports, and semantic models.

• Implement Row-Level Security (RLS) and manage user roles.

• Optimize performance, refresh strategies, and capacity planning.

Data Modeling & ETL

• Design and implement dimensional data models:

  • Star schema

  • Snowflake schema

  • Semantic models

• Hands-on experience with ETL processes, data mapping, transformations, and lineage documentation.

• Perform data profiling, validation, cleansing, and quality checks.

  • SQL Server

  • Oracle

• 10+ years of experience in Business Intelligence / Analytics.

• Advanced expertise in IBM Cognos Analytics (11.x).

• Strong hands-on experience with Power BI (architecture, modeling, development).

• Proven experience leading Cognos → Power BI migration programs.

• Strong background in data warehousing, dimensional modeling, and ETL.

• Expertise with SQL Server, Oracle, IBM DB2, and enterprise data platforms.
