Role: API Solution Architect (Kong / GCP)

Duration: 12+ Months
Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced API Solution Architect with deep expertise in Kong Gateway, GCP, and API architecture. The ideal candidate will lead end-to-end architecture design, governance, and implementation of enterprise API platforms across on-premise and cloud environments, ensuring scalability, security, and high availability.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and lead end-to-end architecture for:
- Kong Konnect
- Kong Gateway (Control Plane / Data Plane)
- Hybrid environments (On-Prem & GCP)
- Define and drive:
- Target architecture
- Security frameworks
- High Availability & Disaster Recovery (HADR)
- Observability and performance optimization
- Lead Architecture Review Board (ARB) discussions and approvals
- Establish and enforce API governance standards, including:
- Design-first approach
- API lifecycle management
- Collaborate with:
- Security teams
- Network teams
- Infrastructure teams
- Product teams
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in Integration & API Architecture
- Proven experience delivering at least 2 enterprise API gateway implementations
- Strong expertise in:
- Kong Konnect & Kong Gateway architecture
- decK and declarative configurations
- Workspaces and RBAC
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- GKE / Kubernetes
- Terraform (Infrastructure as Code)
- Shell scripting
- Experience with:
- Apigee
- Strong understanding of:
- Linux systems
- Networking fundamentals
- Cloud and on-prem integration
Security & Architecture Expertise
- Deep knowledge of API security patterns:
- mTLS
- OAuth2 / OIDC
- JWT
- API keys
- Rate limiting
- WAF
- Secrets & certificate management
- Experience with:
- Observability tools (e.g., Dynatrace, logging frameworks)
- Audit and compliance controls
DevOps & Infrastructure
- Strong experience with:
- CI/CD pipelines
- Git and branching strategies
- Terraform-based automation
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience in:
- Apigee to Kong migration programs
- Multi-org / multi-region architectures
- Knowledge of:
- Service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd)
- SRE / Chaos engineering / resiliency patterns
- Experience in:
- Cost and performance optimization
- Capacity planning for high-throughput API gateways
