Role: Senior MongoDB DBA (Sharding | Ops Manager | AWS Migration)
Location: Sunnyvale, CA or Austin, TX (5 Days/Week Onsite – PST Hours Required)

Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced MongoDB DBA to design, configure, secure, and optimize enterprise-scale MongoDB environments.
The ideal candidate must have strong expertise in replica sets, sharded clusters, MongoDB Ops Manager, X509/TLS security implementation, performance tuning, and AWS migration, with hands-on experience in Linux environments.
Core Responsibilities
Cluster Architecture & Configuration
- Design, install, and configure:
- Multi-node MongoDB replica sets
- Sharded clusters on Linux platforms
- Convert replica sets to sharded clusters to support data growth and query optimization.
- Add/remove replica and shard nodes as needed.
- Implement range-based and hash-based sharding strategies.
- Ensure even data distribution via optimal shard key selection.
MongoDB Ops Manager Administration
- Configure MongoDB Backup & Restore Service (BRS).
- Onboard replica sets and sharded clusters into Ops Manager.
- Manage Ops Manager upgrades.
- Administer projects and groups within Ops Manager.
- Monitor cluster health and performance metrics.
Security & Compliance
- Implement MongoDB security enhancements using:
- X509 authentication
- TLS/SSL encryption
- Configure SSL key files across mongod instances.
- Manage authentication and authorization mechanisms.
- Ensure compliance with enterprise security standards.
- Document security configurations and audit processes.
Backup, Automation & Monitoring
- Automate backup, restore, and monitoring processes using:
- Python
- Shell scripting
- Develop scripts to improve operational efficiency.
- Ensure reliable disaster recovery mechanisms.
Performance Tuning & Query Optimization
- Analyze and optimize query plans.
- Create text indexes for document search optimization.
- Tune performance at:
- Host level
- Database level
- Monitor and optimize replication architecture and change streams.
Upgrades, Migration & Cloud
- Perform MongoDB upgrades (e.g., 4.0 → 4.x).
- Migrate MongoDB clusters to AWS.
- Deploy, monitor, analyze, and tune cloud-based Mongo environments.
Required Skills
- Strong experience with MongoDB replica sets and sharded clusters
- In-depth knowledge of MongoDB Ops Manager
- Expertise in MongoDB security (X509, TLS, SSL)
- Strong Linux administration experience
- Performance tuning and query plan analysis expertise
- Scripting skills (Python, Shell)
- Experience with AWS migration
- Strong understanding of MongoDB replication architecture
