Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced VMware Cloud Architect / Consultant with deep expertise in hybrid and multi-cloud environments. The ideal candidate will lead end-to-end architecture, strategy, and transformation initiatives across private, hybrid, and public cloud platforms. This role requires a strong blend of hands-on VMware expertise and consulting capabilities, including executive-level communication, roadmap planning, and delivery leadership.

Note: Prior experience with Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) and VMware environments is required.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Advisory

• Lead assessment workshops to evaluate current infrastructure, operations, cost, and risk
• Define target-state architecture for SDDC and cloud transformation
• Develop business cases (TCO/ROI), migration strategies, and investment roadmaps
• Establish governance models, landing zones, and operational frameworks
• Present architecture and strategy to senior leadership and review boards

Architecture & Design

• Create High-Level Design (HLD) and Low-Level Design (LLD) documents
• Design high availability and disaster recovery models (HA/DR, RPO/RTO)
• Develop security architectures including:
• Micro-segmentation
• Zero Trust frameworks
• Architect solutions across on-prem, hybrid, and multi-cloud environments

Delivery Leadership

• Lead POCs, pilots, and large-scale migrations (data center consolidation, modernization)
• Manage cross-functional teams (network, security, storage, DevOps, platform engineering)
• Establish Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation frameworks using:
• PowerCLI (must-have)
• Terraform / Ansible / Python (preferred)
• Integrate automation with CI/CD pipelines

Operations, Reliability & Security

• Define SRE practices, operational runbooks, and monitoring strategies
• Implement monitoring and observability using:
• Aria Operations
• vRealize Operations & Logs
• Manage capacity planning, patching, and lifecycle management
• Implement Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity (BCP) using SRM
• Drive cost optimization (rightsizing, consolidation, licensing strategies)
• Collaborate with security, audit, and compliance teams (SOX, PCI, HIPAA, FFIEC)

Stakeholder & Consulting Responsibilities

• Translate technical solutions into business outcomes and risk trade-offs
• Create executive presentations, architecture documents, and decision logs
• Support RFP/RFI responses, solution sizing, and estimation
• Act as a trusted advisor to C-level stakeholders and enterprise teams

• VMware Stack:
• vSphere / ESXi (8/9)
• vCenter
• vSAN
• NSX-T
• Aria / vRealize Suite
• SRM (Site Recovery Manager)
• HCX
• Tanzu / Kubernetes
• VMware Cloud Platforms:
• VMware Cloud on AWS / Azure / GCP
• VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)
• VMware Lifecycle Manager
• Strong knowledge of:
• Hybrid & multi-cloud architectures
• Network overlays
• Egress controls and cost optimization strategies

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong experience as a VMware Architect / Consultant in enterprise environments
• Proven expertise in end-to-end cloud transformation and migration projects
• Strong scripting/automation skills:
• PowerCLI (must-have)
• Terraform / Ansible / Python (preferred)
• Experience in 24/7 critical production environments
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills

• VMware Certifications:
• VCP-DCV
• VCAP
• VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Specialist
• Experience with regulated environments and compliance frameworks
• Strong background in DevOps and automation practices
