Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Apigee Developer with hands-on experience in API management, security, and automation. The ideal candidate will design, develop, and manage APIs using Apigee Edge/X, implement secure integrations, and build scalable API solutions integrated with modern CI/CD and cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities

API Development & Management

• Design, build, test, deploy, and manage API proxies, shared flows, API products, and developer apps using Apigee (Edge/X)
• Implement proxy flows, routing, and mediation for RESTful and event-driven integrations
• Develop reusable policies and shared components for scalability and consistency

API Security & Governance

• Implement API security using:
• OAuth 2.0, OIDC
• JWT validation
• mTLS
• IP whitelisting and access control
• Apply best practices for rate limiting, caching, and error handling
• Ensure API lifecycle governance including versioning, backward compatibility, and deprecation strategies

Policy Development & Rules Engine

• Develop and configure Apigee policies:
• OAuth, JWT, Spike Arrest, Quota
• CORS, Cache, Message Logging
• Implement fault handling and exception management
• Use JavaScript, Java, or Python callouts for custom logic

Developer Portal & API Onboarding

• Configure and customize Apigee Developer Portal (Drupal/Next-Gen Portal)
• Manage API product setup, developer onboarding, and app registration
• Maintain API documentation using OpenAPI (Swagger)

Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

• Manage Apigee environments using:
• Terraform
• Apigee Config Management tools
• Configure orgs, environments, keystores, KVMs, and target servers
• Enable multi-environment deployments and promotion strategies

CI/CD & Automation

• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using:
• GitHub Actions / Jenkins / Azure DevOps / GitLab CI
• Automate:
• Linting, testing, and deployments
• Security scanning and zero-downtime releases
• Use tools like Maven, apigeetool, apigeecli, and deploy plugins

Observability & Performance

• Implement monitoring and logging using:
• Apigee Analytics
• Splunk / ELK
• Cloud Monitoring tools
• Define SLOs, error budgets, and performance metrics
• Support load testing, caching strategies, and capacity planning

Collaboration & Support

• Work with product, architecture, and backend teams for API design
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and enhance reliability
• Maintain documentation, standards, and reusable templates

Required Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of hands-on experience with Apigee (Edge or X)
• Strong expertise in:
• API proxy development and policy configuration
• API security (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, mTLS)
• Rate limiting, caching, and error handling
• Experience with CI/CD tools and Git-based workflows
• Hands-on experience with IaC tools (Terraform, Apigee Config tools)
• Experience with Apigee Developer Portal (Drupal/Next-Gen)
• Strong programming skills in:
• JavaScript (Apigee policies)
• Java / Python / Node.js
• Familiarity with:
• OpenAPI / Swagger
• REST APIs, JSON/XML, schema validation
• Exposure to cloud platforms:
• GCP (preferred), AWS, or Azure
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with event-driven architectures
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TLS, DNS, proxies)
• Experience with SRE practices and API performance tuning
• Prior experience in enterprise-scale API platforms
