Job Title: Data Center Discovery & Migration Specialist (DCIM / Structured Cabling)

Location: Atlanta, GA
Duration: 12+ Months
Experience Required: 10+ Years


Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Data Center Discovery & Migration Specialist with strong expertise in structured cabling systems, DCIM administration (Sunbird preferred), and enterprise data center documentation.

This role is responsible for maintaining accurate connectivity mapping, asset tracking, firmware data currency, and rack-level documentation to support data center governance, capacity planning, and migration initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

1. Structured Cabling & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate documentation for fiber (SM/MM) and copper (Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6a) cabling infrastructure.

  • Ensure compliance with labeling standards and connectivity mapping best practices.

  • Maintain structured cabling databases and documentation discipline.


2. Rack & Connectivity Management

  • Update and manage rack layouts and elevations using AutoCAD and Microsoft Visio.

  • Maintain patch panel documentation and end-to-end connectivity maps.

  • Map NIC ports to patch panels and switch ports, including:

    • MAC addresses

    • Interface roles (Prod / Mgmt / iDRAC)

    • Speed and interface types


3. DCIM Administration (Sunbird Preferred)

  • Administer Sunbird DCIM (or equivalent platform).

  • Maintain asset inventory, device templates, and model libraries.

  • Support capacity planning and forecasting.

  • Ensure all Moves/Adds/Changes (MACD) are properly documented and updated in DCIM.


4. Firmware & Asset Data Management

  • Maintain accurate firmware tracking and device model documentation.

  • Ensure configuration data currency and compliance readiness.

  • Keep inventory aligned with operational and governance standards.


5. Migration & Governance Support

  • Provide visual diagrams and documentation for:

    • New deployments

    • Data center expansions

    • Migration initiatives

  • Support quarterly and annual audits.

  • Participate in change management and compliance activities.


6. Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with:

    • Network teams

    • Server teams

    • Data center operations

    • Cabling vendors

  • Maintain accurate end-to-end connectivity mapping across environments.


Required Technical Skills

  • 10+ years in enterprise data center environments.

  • Strong experience with:

    • Structured cabling (Fiber SM/MM, Cat5e/6/6a)

    • Patch panels and connectivity mapping

  • Hands-on experience with DCIM platforms (Sunbird preferred).

  • Strong proficiency in:

    • AutoCAD

    • Microsoft Visio

  • NIC mapping and MAC address inventory management.

  • Firmware tracking and device model library maintenance.

  • Knowledge of MACD processes and change management workflows.

  • Familiarity with ITIL best practices.
