Location: Sunnyvale, CA (Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite / 2 Days Remote)

Description:
We are seeking an experienced Workday Functional Consultant with strong expertise in Workday Core HCM, Benefits, Compensation, Absence/Leave, and Payroll. The ideal candidate will lead end-to-end functional design, configuration, business process optimization, and deployment activities while collaborating with HR, Payroll, Finance, and IT teams.
This is primarily a functional role, with approximately 30% involvement in Workday integrations.
Key Responsibilities
Functional Analysis & Solution Design
- Lead discovery workshops to gather and document business requirements.
- Prepare functional specifications, process flows, user stories, and configuration workbooks.
- Define solution design, decision logs, and implementation best practices.
- Analyze downstream impacts across Recruiting, Talent, Performance, Finance, Payroll, and third-party integrations.
Workday Functional Configuration
Core HCM
- Configure organizations and staffing models.
- Manage worker lifecycle transactions including Hire, Change Job, Transfer, and Termination.
- Configure Position Management, Job Profiles, Job Architecture, and Eligibility Rules.
Benefits
- Configure Open Enrollment and Life Event processes.
- Maintain benefit plans, eligibility rules, coverage tiers, rates, dependents, Evidence of Insurability (EOI), COBRA, and vendor interfaces.
Compensation
- Configure compensation grades, salary structures, compensation plans, bonus programs, equity plans, merit cycles, approvals, and audit processes.
Absence & Leave
- Configure leave types, accruals, carryover rules, eligibility, balances, calendars, leave processes, and employee reinstatement workflows.
Payroll
- Configure pay groups, payroll schedules, earnings, deductions, tax settings, retro payroll, off-cycle payroll processing, payroll validations, year-end activities, and vendor interfaces.
Security, Compliance & Data Governance
- Configure and maintain Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) following least-privilege principles.
- Manage security groups, access approvals, and periodic access reviews.
- Ensure compliance with SOX, audit, privacy, payroll security, and enterprise data governance standards.
- Support audit readiness, control documentation, evidence collection, and remediation activities.
Integrations (Approximately 30%)
- Partner with technical teams on Workday integrations with HRIS, Payroll, Benefits, Finance, LMS, Identity Management, and third-party applications.
- Define functional mappings, interface specifications, and field-level requirements.
- Validate end-to-end data quality across inbound and outbound integrations.
Integration Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and support Workday integrations using:
- Workday Studio
- Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB)
- Core Connectors
- Workday Web Services (SOAP/REST)
- Perform data transformation using:
- XML
- XSLT
- JSON
- Execute integration testing, troubleshoot production issues, and support deployment activities.
- Ensure integrations comply with security, governance, and compliance standards.
- Monitor integration performance and recommend continuous improvements.
Testing & Deployment
- Prepare and execute Unit Testing, System Integration Testing (SIT), and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
- Analyze defects and coordinate issue resolution.
- Support production deployments, cutover planning, reconciliation, and Hypercare activities.
- Develop user documentation, SOPs, and administrator training materials.
Operations & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor payroll controls, integrations, carrier feeds, security queues, and operational SLAs.
- Identify process improvement opportunities and recommend Workday configuration enhancements.
- Maintain documentation and support ongoing platform optimization initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Workday Functional Consultant.
- Strong expertise in:
- Workday Core HCM
- Benefits
- Compensation
- Absence Management
- Payroll
- Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into scalable Workday solutions.
- Strong knowledge of Workday Business Processes and Security Framework.
- Experience supporting Workday implementations, enhancements, and production support.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Workday Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, and Workday Web Services.
- Working knowledge of XML, XSLT, JSON, SOAP, and REST APIs.
- Experience integrating Workday with Payroll, HRIS, Finance, Benefits, or Identity Management systems.
- Workday certification(s) preferred.
- Experience working in enterprise-level global Workday environments.
