Job Title: AI Engineer Lead / Backend Engineering Lead

Location: Remote

 

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled AI Engineer Lead / Backend Engineering Lead to design, develop, and optimize scalable backend systems, APIs, automation workflows, and AI-assisted development solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Python and/or Node.js along with experience leveraging AI-powered coding tools to accelerate development while maintaining enterprise engineering standards.

This role requires deep technical expertise in backend engineering, API integrations, cloud-native development, DevOps practices, and AI-assisted software delivery. The candidate will collaborate with architects, product owners, and cross-functional teams to build production-ready enterprise applications and automation platforms.

 

Key Responsibilities

Backend Development & Engineering

•              Design and build scalable backend services, APIs, automation workflows, and reusable software components using Python and/or Node.js.

•              Develop enterprise-grade integrations across applications, databases, APIs, and cloud platforms.

•              Build secure, high-performance, and maintainable microservices architectures.

•              Support rapid prototyping and experimentation while ensuring solutions mature into production-ready systems.

AI-Assisted Development

•              Utilize AI-assisted coding tools such as Windsurf, GitHub Copilot, or similar platforms to improve engineering productivity.

•              Review, validate, debug, refactor, and optimize AI-generated code for:

o             Performance

o             Security

o             Scalability

o             Maintainability

o             Code quality

•              Implement best practices for AI-assisted software development workflows.

Troubleshooting & Optimization

•              Troubleshoot issues across:

o             Application logic

o             APIs

o             Apigee platforms

o             Databases

o             Enterprise integrations

o             Deployment pipelines

o             Production environments

•              Identify root causes and implement long-term scalable fixes.

•              Improve system reliability, observability, and operational efficiency.

DevOps & Engineering Standards

•              Follow established coding standards, DevOps practices, documentation guidelines, and enterprise engineering frameworks.

•              Participate in CI/CD pipeline implementation and deployment support activities.

•              Assist with testing, integration validation, deployment support, issue resolution, and post-production improvements.

Collaboration & Agile Delivery

•              Collaborate closely with technical leads, architects, product owners, business stakeholders, and engineering teams.

•              Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog grooming, stand-ups, retrospectives, and release planning.

•              Contribute to technical design discussions and architectural decisions.

 

Required Skills & Qualifications

•              Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

•              8+ years of experience in backend engineering or software development.

•              Strong hands-on experience with:

o             Python and/or Node.js

o             REST APIs

o             Backend services development

o             Microservices architecture

•              Experience with AI-assisted coding tools such as:

o             GitHub Copilot

o             Windsurf

o             Similar AI developer productivity platforms

•              Strong debugging, code review, and optimization skills.

•              Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

•              Knowledge of DevOps processes, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation.

•              Experience with API management and integrations (Apigee preferred).

•              Strong understanding of databases, enterprise integrations, and scalable architectures.

•              Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

 

Preferred Qualifications

•              Experience building AI/ML-enabled applications.

•              Exposure to enterprise-scale distributed systems.

•              Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

•              Experience with automation platforms and workflow orchestration tools.

•              Familiarity with enterprise security and compliance standards.
